Dozens of checks by the Carabinieri of the NAS throughout Campania: in the province of Naples, the owners of 3 pizzerias were reported for commercial fraud. In the provinces of Avellino and Benevento, liters of wine and oil were seized, as well as cheeses and cured meats, without indications of origin and traceability.
Widespread checks in Campania
Widespread checks were carried out throughout Campania by the Carabinieri of the NAS (Anti-adulteration and Health Unit), who checked dozens of commercial activities in the various provinces of the region: 99 businesses were checked, 45 of which were fined, for a total of 80 thousand euros in fines.
Irregularities in the premises of Naples
In the province of Naples, specifically in Giugliano, Tufino, and Marigliano, the Carabinieri reported the owners of three pizzerias: their menus advertised pizzas made with high-quality ingredients, which, according to the inspection, were actually substandard. In some cases, the use of "DOP zucchini flowers" was also reported, a product that, however, never received this designation.
Therefore, the three owners were reported to the competent Judicial Authority for commercial fraud. Reported for commercial fraud and counterfeiting of geographical indications or Dop is the owner of a fruit and vegetable preservation company in Frattaminore, still in the Naples area: he sold Albanian chestnuts passing them off as Neapolitan.
Furthermore, in the Vesuvius National Park area, a company was selling Piennolo tomatoes even though it was not part of the control circuit or the protection consortium.
Food Seizures in Avellino and Benevento
The checks by the Carabinieri of the NAS also involved the province of Avellino. In Forino, the military seized 65 kilos of food products, including guanciale, soppressata and caciocavalli without traceability indications.
Meanwhile, in a wine warehouse in Taurasi, 17.200 liters of bulk wine and another 4 liters of bottled wine were seized, again lacking traceability and provenance information. In the Benevento area, specifically in San Giorgio del Sannio, Carabinieri seized 400 liters of olive oil for lack of traceability. In the same town, officers seized approximately 100 kilos of seafood without provenance from four fishmongers.
