The "Fili" project, promoted by the FNM Group and supported by the Lombardy Region, represents an innovative vision that aims to transform train stations into more than just transit hubs. The proposal, outlined by Andrea Gibelli, president of the FNM Group, aims not only to improve railway infrastructure but also to transform stations into true meeting places.
A new conception of urban spaces
During the event "Threads for the Future of Cities: A New Urban Metabolism with Ecological and Social Networks," held in Milan, Gibelli highlighted how the project intends to leverage the contributions of leading architects to redesign the stations. The goal is to integrate them into the urban fabric, making the stations key elements of the city.

"Fili" is therefore an ambitious project, looking to the future of railway infrastructure with an innovative approach. With the support of regional funds, targeted investments in rail and trains will be made, aiming for urban regeneration that promotes new forms of social interaction and sustainability in urban areas.
"The 'Fili' project is a vision that starts with the railway, which is our job, to continue investing in rail and trains thanks to funding from the Lombardy Region. However, the vision extends its focus and regards stations as places not just for transit, but also as meeting places. We have enlisted the help of leading architectural firms to design the new stations and ensure that the urban fabric becomes a defining element of the stations," stated Andrea Gibelli.
The project is part of a broader framework, involving collaboration between various stakeholders to bring stations to the center of urban dynamics, enhancing their importance not only as transportation hubs but also as places for gathering and cultural promotion.

The Fili project seems like a good idea to me, but there are many problems to solve. Stations are often neglected and more attention should be paid to making these places real and useful meeting points.
