In a plot worthy of the best thrillers, a gang of scammers has pulled off a masterstroke against a Roman woman. With meticulous planning and disconcerting ease, the criminals have infiltrated the victim's life, posing as security experts for Poste Italiane.
Taking advantage of the woman's trust in the postal institution, the scammers reassured her about the need to carry out some urgent operations to protect her current account. With a mixture of alarm and reassurance, they induced the woman to hand over her ATM card and PIN, promising to return them immediately after carrying out the necessary checks.
Once in possession of the sensitive data, the scammers acted quickly and precisely, emptying the victim's bank account in a few hours. Through a network of "clean" bank accounts, they dispersed the loot of 145 thousand euros, making it difficult to trace their tracks.
The investigations of the Carabinieri, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Vallo della Lucania, have allowed to reveal the intricate network of accomplices and to identify those responsible for the robbery. Three people have been arrested on charges of aggravated fraud, impersonation and money laundering.
