Sant'Anastasia – A seizure of 35 kg of counterfeit food products has rocked the local market. Officers from the Carabinieri Unit of the Vesuvius National Park in San Sebastiano al Vesuvio, along with the Carabinieri Unit of the Ottaviano Park, uncovered an illegal operation involving the famous "Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio" (Vesuvius Piennolo tomato).
The intervention took place at a company of Sant'Anastasia, where the owner was reported for the crime of usurpation of titles pursuant to Article 498 of the Penal Code and for violation of the production specifications of the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).

During the check, the Carabinieri Forestali found six cardboard boxes containing fresh cherry tomatoes already packaged and ready for sale, accompanied by 400 labels with the words “Pomodorino del Piennolo”. In addition to these, other bunches of fresh cherry tomatoes falsely labeled with the same protected brand were found. Overall, the seized products amount to approximately 35 kg, all intended for sale with false labeling. In addition to the seizure of the goods, the owner was given an administrative fine of 4.000 euros, as provided for by Legislative Decree 297/2004.

the episode of seizure of food products is very serious. but i don't understand how consumers can be deceived like this. there should be more control over these illegal activities. i hope there are more severe sanctions to prevent it from happening again.
