The story behind the novel
Philippe Calieri, thanks to a network of informants and colleagues, uncovers the maritime trafficking that transported many "carusi" from Sicily to Marseille. There, the young men were directed to factories or ended up in the hands of Marseille's criminal underworld, known for the brutality and scale of its trafficking in the Mediterranean. A compelling novel that portrays sociological aspects of a dark era in Italian history.
