A serious fire severely damaged Palazzo Genovese and several nearby buildings on the night between Saturday and Sunday, on Via Pandolfina Fasanella in Salerno. According to initial investigations, the fire was started deliberately, as confirmed by the mayor. Vincenzo Naples, who talked about a “wretched act”.
The authorities are now investigating with the help of the Scientific Police, who have sequestered the area to collect elements useful for the investigation. The mayor stressed the importance of tracing the motivations behind this gesture, hoping that light can be shed on the origin of the fire.
"I would think that this was a malicious act. If confirmed, it will be essential to understand the reasons behind this gesture", said Naples. In the meantime, the municipal administration is evaluating the possibility of recovering the building, which is used as a venue for cultural exhibitions, including that of the ARCI. The area will remain under the control of the police until the end of the investigation.
