At the end of the 1-1 draw against Napoli, Simone Inzaghi, Inter coach, expressed satisfaction with his team's performance, while acknowledging the disappointment for a result that did not fully do justice to the match. Speaking to DAZN, Inzaghi praised his players for the intensity they showed on the pitch, especially after their great effort in the Champions League against Arsenal, just a few days earlier.
“If there was a team that deserved to win, it was definitely Inter,” Inzaghi declared. “In the second half we dominated, the game was one-way. Given the energy spent on Wednesday, I didn't expect a performance like this; the boys gave it their all, so much so that I almost didn't feel like making changes.”
Inzaghi also analysed the difficulties of the first half, during which Inter went behind due to a defensive distraction from a dead ball situation: “We conceded a goal on an avoidable incident, but the team reacted well, maintaining compactness and concentration. We hit the posts twice and missed a penalty; it would have been difficult to do better against an opponent of this level, also considering the accumulated fatigue.”
Looking beyond the outcome, Inzaghi he said he was satisfied with the performance offered by his team: “As a coach, I have to look beyond the result, which obviously doesn’t satisfy us. But tonight I saw a great Inter. It will be a balanced championship, as I expected, and we want to be protagonists. I congratulated the whole team for what they did today.”
