Workers at the Marcianise plant in the province of Caserta have expressed a resounding "no" to the alternative layoff plan presented by the electronics multinational Jabil.
During a crowded meeting attended by company union delegates (RSU) and provincial and national representatives of the metalworkers' unions (Fiom-Cgil, Fim-Cisl, Uilm and Failms), the majority rejected the so-called "social mitigation plan".
The plan included the sale of the site of marcianise, with its 418 employees, to Tme Assembly Engineering Srl, a new company established by Tme di Portico di Caserta and Invitalia, owned by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The process, initiated by Jabil after announcing its intention to close operations in Italy by March 2025, will therefore conclude without an agreement.

In the past, other workers who moved to companies like Softlab and Orefice, even incentivized by financial bonuses, did not find job stability: some of them, for example, are currently on redundancy or have been fired.
The dispute now enters a phase of uncertainty: with the dialogue between the parties concluded, a negotiating table will not be available. Jabil, determined to cease operations by March 2025, does not seem to intend to backtrack.
However, the workers remain firm and reiterate that "Jabil must stay, because the work is there." Production at the plant, in fact, has been intense, and there has been "a real boom in work activity."
Faced with the potential loss of 418 jobs, workers are confident in institutional intervention, demanding that the Caserta area not be abandoned.

workers should not be afraid of losing their jobs, but the company must be clearer about what it wants to do. there are many employees and the situation is complicated for everyone. more dialogue and less unilateral decisions are needed.
