A scheduled appointment, an ambulance emergency, a routine visit, or a race against time. For many Neapolitans, the destination is one of the health facilities in the city's hilly area. The signs on the ring road leave no doubt: the destination is the "hospital area."
Here there is a wide range of healthcare and assistance services, with excellent facilities recognized at a national level. Hospitals such as Cardarelli, Pascale, Policlinico, Monaldi, Cotugno and Santobono.
Every day, thousands of people pass through the doors of these hospitals, hoping to get out as soon as possible. Some seek answers, some long to return to their daily lives, and some hope to see their loved ones beyond the emergency room. There are people who pray, and others who, perhaps, have stopped praying.
And then there are those who impose an unwanted “fee”: the illegal parking attendants.

These individuals gravitate around hospitals, many of which have been present for years and are known to regulars, so much so that they even appear on Google Maps. Often reported and left at large, they often return to “service” the following day.
For a 51 year old from Mugnano, in 2024 alone, the total reports are as many as 41. Yesterday the last of these. The Carabinieri of the Vomero Company have patrolled the entire area once again.
11 people reported. Like the woman from Mugnano, others are not new to the police force.
Un 36 year old and a 55 year old together they count 24 complaints this year alone, 12 each. Others have collected 5, 2 or 3.
The rates are very high. 10 € for parking your car, even if it's for a few minutes. Only 5 euros for two-wheelers. It doesn't matter if the person they're asking for money from is in a hurry, disoriented or terrified for a visit. Or for an emergency. The bill must be paid in advance.
The military have been monitoring the hospital area all day and will continue to do so in the coming hours.
In the last month, in addition to those of yesterday, the Carabinieri of the Vomero company have reported 21 people, and have flagged 5.
