ROME (ITALPRESS) - Recent research conducted by ENEA and the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate of the National Research Council (CNR) highlights a major environmental issue: indoor pollution in urban areas impacts human health just as severely as outdoor pollution. This phenomenon can have significant consequences in terms of lung disease, heart disease, and cancer. The study was conducted in collaboration with the Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Milan-Bicocca, as part of the VIEPI project funded by INAIL, and published in the scientific journal Environmental Pollution.
The importance of study
The study represents a step forward in understanding the effects of indoor pollution on urban populations. Francesca Costabile, a researcher at the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate of the National Research Council (CNR), contributed to the project, emphasizing the importance of the findings. The project's results provide a clear warning for future environmental policies and for air quality management in both homes and workplaces.
Collaboration and future implications
Thanks to joint work with the universities of Rome and Milan-Bicocca, the research has acquired an interdisciplinary dimension, allowing the problem to be analyzed from different scientific perspectives. The implications of these findings suggest the need for further studies and the implementation of preventive measures to protect public health by minimizing exposure to indoor air pollution.
