Malagò: "Need to accelerate, the Olympic Games leave an important legacy"

MILAN (ITALPRESS) - During a meeting on the sidelines of the "Paris 2024, the awards ceremony for the Olympic and Paralympic athletes of the Lombardy Region" event, the progress of preparations for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics was discussed. A master plan was presented in June 2019, featuring an innovative approach to the use of existing sports facilities. In fact, 90% of the existing facilities are being used, a historic record for an Olympic Games.

### Plants and new development

The only completely new facility currently under construction is the one planned for Santa Giulia, which represents a long-awaited added value. Further progress has also been made on the new sliding center in Milan Cortina, where work is progressing well. However, it is recognized that the process needs to be accelerated to address past challenges.

### Legacy of the Olympics

It was emphasized that major sporting events, such as Turin 2006 and Rome 1960, have left significant legacies in their respective host communities. The legacy of these events translates into lasting benefits for the entire community, strengthening the sporting and social value of the Olympics.

It is important that we talk about the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, but I wonder if we will really be able to do everything in time, given that there are many things to sort out and the work is progressing slowly.
