Bad weather in Italy – The African anticyclone, which in recent days has guaranteed clear skies and mild temperatures across much of the Peninsula, is now numbered. The time is near when the high pressure will give way to disturbances and cold air, a sign of an imminent change of season. According to the forecasts of Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist for the portal iLMeteo.it, sunny days still await us in the Center-North, albeit accompanied by smog and night fog. However, in the South the first signs of atmospheric instability are already being observed.
The first signs will arrive in the next few hours with light rains on Calabria and Ionian Sicily, which will still be phenomena of modest intensity. In the Center-North, the sun will continue to shine after the morning fog has cleared, bringing temperatures still above the seasonal average: values around 20-22°C are expected between Genoa and Rome, 25°C in Oristano and 23°C in Naples, Salerno and Taranto.
In the middle of the week, the rains will gradually intensify in Sicily, extending to Tyrrhenian Sardinia. In this situation, some central-southern coasts of the Tyrrhenian Sea could experience some showers, while in the open sea the situation is expected to be more delicate. Between Friday and Saturday, in fact, the still warm waters of the Mediterranean could trigger violent downpours, in a context similar to that which caused the recent and devastating floods in SpainIntense thunderstorms could form in the open sea on the central and southern Tyrrhenian Sea, with possible incursions onto the eastern coast of Sardinia, although forecasts are still being confirmed.
The Mediterranean Sea, in fact, currently has temperatures about 2°C higher than the seasonal average, creating an ideal environment for severe weather events. However, starting next week, a drop in water temperatures is expected thanks to the arrival of cold air from the north. Between November 12 and 13, some weather models suggest a reversal of the trend: the usual Indian Summer, or the typical sunny and mild period that occurs in November, could turn into an early Indian Winter, giving way to a more severe autumn.
During the week, therefore, there will be alternating periods of good weather and widespread instability, especially on the Major Islands, where intense storms could hit between Friday and Saturday. With the arrival of the cold expected as early as next week, Italy is officially preparing to say goodbye to the hot African anticyclone. This warm breath coming from the South will give way to new disturbances, bringing rain, wind and cold throughout the Peninsula and giving way to a finally more marked autumn season.
