The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, raises the alarm on the use of weapons among young people: "In Naples we are facing a real emergency related to the presence of weapons in the hands of young people. There are young people who begin to commit crimes with weapons as early as 14-15 years old, and this must make us reflect deeply and push us to act".
These are the words of the mayor in commenting on the murder of the nineteen year old Holy Roman at the hands of a seventeen-year-old, in addition to a previous episode that saw the killing of a fifteen-year-old.
Speaking on the sidelines of the National Unity Festival in Piazza del Plebiscito, Manfredi underlined the importance of intensifying surveillance and control activities, especially at night, when most of these episodes occur.
"We need monitoring, control, and also recovery and inclusion of these kids, because the situation requires maximum attention. Often these young people come from difficult family backgrounds, so it is a problem that must be addressed globally."
