Gaetano Manfredi, mayor of Naples, is the new president of ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities). The election, which took place unanimously during the National Council held at the Lingotto Fiere in Turin, marks a moment of great political and historical importance for the city of Naples.
Manfredi replaces Roberto Pella, who led the association ad interim after the end of the mandate of Antonio Decaro, former mayor of Bari and currently a member of the European Parliament. Alongside the election of the Neapolitan mayor, Marco Fioravanti, mayor of Ascoli Piceno, was appointed president of the National Council of ANCI, also elected unanimously.
Manfredi's election represents a significant first: never before, in the 123-year history of ANCI, has the mayor of Naples—the largest metropolis in Southern Italy—held this position.

A national challenge for Manfredi
“The election of Gaetano Manfredi is an extraordinary moment for Naples and a clear demonstration of confidence in his ability to govern with concreteness and vision,” Acampora declared. “This recognition at a national level rewards a model of government that, despite the difficulties and heavy legacies of the past, has managed to have an impact and create synthesis.”
As president of ANCI, Manfredi will now be called to represent the over 7.000 Italian municipalities, in a period of great challenges for local authorities, between the implementation of the PNRR, economic and environmental sustainability, and the strengthening of the role of territorial autonomies in the dialogue with the central State.
Pride in Manfredi's new role is also reflected in the Naples City Council, where the Democratic Party played a leading role in supporting the mayor's candidacy. “This result encourages us to continue working tirelessly, alongside him, to make Naples an even more central city in the national panorama,” added Acampora.
