Major theft of drugs at Sant'Orsola: two brothers arrested by the Carabinieri – After months of intense investigations, the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Bologna, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office, arrested two Italian brothers on charges of aggravated theft in competition. The episode dates back to the night of December 22, 2023, when the two, together with other accomplices who are still unidentified, entered the pharmacy of the "Sant'Orsola" polyclinic in Bologna, stealing a large load of anti-tumor chemotherapy drugs for a total value of 1.909.680 euros.
According to the investigators' reconstruction, the criminals managed to enter the building by forcing a metal grate and a window. Once inside, they stole 815 packages of drugs, intended for the oncology patients of the hospital. The theft, which had a significant impact on the availability of care for the patients, was immediately reported by the health director, starting an investigation that kept the police busy for months.
Today, the operation has reached its epilogue: the two brothers have been tracked down, one at a time. Napoli and the other in Bologna. The arrests were carried out by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Nucleus of Bologna, with the collaboration of the local force for the arrest in the capital of Campania. The judge for preliminary investigations of Bologna issued precautionary measures against them: the older brother, in his fifties, was taken to prison, while the younger one was placed under house arrest with an electronic bracelet.
