An unprecedented operation has led to the dismantling of one of the largest international illegal streaming networks. Coordinated by the Catania Public Prosecutor's Office, Operation "Taken Down" identified and deactivated over 2500 pirate channels, used by approximately 22 million users across Europe.
We're talking about a colossal business, estimated at over 250 million euros a month. A complex and multifaceted system, managed by a transnational criminal organization based in Italy and the Netherlands, which illegally offered matches, film and TV series from the main streaming platforms.
An international investigation
The operation, which involved police forces from several European countries, led to the seizure of servers, cryptocurrencies, and cash worth over €1,8 million. Investigators also identified and deactivated the main servers, located in Romania and Hong Kong, that powered the illegal network.
The risk for users
All users who connected to pirate channels now risk administrative and criminal sanctions. Using illegal streaming services is a crime, punishable by hefty fines and, in the most serious cases, even arrest.

A hard blow to piracy
Operation "Taken Down" represents a severe blow to audiovisual piracy, a phenomenon that severely damages the film and television industries. Legal platforms invest huge sums of money in the production of original content, which is then illegally stolen and distributed without compensation to the creators.
The words of the investigators
"This operation once again demonstrates the importance of international cooperation in the fight against organized crime," said the Catania prosecutor. "Audiovisual piracy is a constantly evolving phenomenon, but we are determined to combat all forms of illegality."
Expert advice
To avoid penalties, it's essential to use only legal streaming platforms. This helps support the film and television industry and ensures the quality of content.
