"Journey by Train" arrives at the Pietrarsa Museum. The first edition of "Get on the Train," a special multidisciplinary project produced by the Sorrento Peninsula Prize, will conclude on Sunday, November 10th at the Pietrarsa National Railway Museum in Portici. The initiative aims to celebrate the Prize's 30th anniversary, which will take place in 2025.

After the presentation in Caserta at the Department of Political Sciences of the Vanvitelli University and a stop in Sorrento with the special appearance of Anna Foglietta, the event now reaches the Railway Museum for the premiere of the short film that won the international competition "Viaggio in treno."

International "Train Journey" Competition

The competition, sponsored by the Italian State Railways Foundation, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, attracted over 160 entries from around the world. The winning entry was "Cicale," a short film that tells the story of two brothers reunited after years in an old train station for the reading of a will. Abruzzo-born director Francesco Paolucci will be present at the closing ceremony, along with other cultural and academic figures, including Oreste Orvitti, Director of the Pietrarsa Museum, and Mario Esposito, the project's creator.

Valorization of the South and the Mediterranean

The event is part of a scientific and cultural project aimed at promoting Southern Italy and the Mediterranean, including through train travel. The project's official image is a photograph by Sicilian photographer Giuseppe Leone, chosen for its powerful evocative impact. The photo depicts a train with a steam locomotive on a bridge, with Ragusa Ibla in the background, and was previously used by Bompiani for the cover of Guido Piovene's book "Il Viaggio in Italia." The event promises to be an important bridge between culture, space, and time, celebrating the enduring allure of rail travel.
