The Montesanto funicular in Naples will remain closed until Tuesday, November 26, extending the suspension of service from three to six days for extraordinary maintenance work. This closure was communicated by Gennaro Capodanno, president of the Comitato Valori collinari.
Slowdowns in public transport
The interruption of service on the Montesanto funicular comes in addition to the existing interruption of the Chiaia funicular, which has been closed for almost 26 months. These disruptions affect a large number of users daily: approximately 12.500 passengers use the Montesanto system, many of whom are students, workers, and tourists heading to Vomero. Added to these are the 15.000 users of the Chiaia funicular.
More inconveniences to come
To further complicate the situation of public transport in Naples, there is the change in the timetable of the metro line 1, which from 25 to 28 November will close about two hours earlier. These interruptions are highlighting critical issues in the rail service in the city, creating significant inconvenience for the population.
