Naples. "We're at the limit. And the restrictive measures required by law aren't enough, especially if they're not respected. Every day we witness insults, attacks, and acts of violence against nurses who, with extraordinary commitment, shoulder heavy workloads to save lives, only to be beaten and mistreated in return, risking their own lives."
This was declared by Teresa Rea, president of the Order of Nursing Professions of Naples, following the attack that occurred last night in the emergency room of the Betania hospital in Ponticelli, against a nurse and a security guard. According to the Naples Opi, among the injured is a young nurse, Cino Simone, who, after treatment at the hospital's post-traumatic care unit, will be out of action for at least twenty days, barring complications that may emerge from further diagnostic tests.
"An important healthcare facility like ours," adds Vincenzo Bottino, general director of Betania Hospital and president of the Association of Italian Hospital Surgeons, "deserves greater attention from law enforcement, as promised by Prefect Di Bari. But above all, it's incomprehensible why, despite the law providing for arrest in flagrante delicto, the attacker is now hospitalized in our facilities without a detention order or arrest warrant."
