Displayed in Piazza del Plebiscito on the occasion of the swearing-in of the students of the 237th Course of the "Nunziatella" Military School, the work by sculptor Domenico Sepe dedicated to the prestigious institution has garnered the applause and enthusiasm of thousands of visitors from around the world.

So much so that, placed near the famous square for the solemn act of loyalty to the Italian Republic by the students of the glorious Academy, the sculpture attracted the admiration of those present at the ceremony, including the Undersecretary of State for Defense, Isabella Rauti, the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Luciano Portolano, and the Chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant General Carmine Masiello.

And again the Commander for Training, Specialization and Doctrine of the Army, General of the Army Corps Carlo Lamanna and the Commander of the Military School “Nunziatella”, Colonel Alberto Valent, as well as the lively approval of the citizens and tourists who came to Piazza del Plebiscito from everywhere.

Created by Domenico Sepe based on an idea by Nunziatella alumnus and art curator Francesco Pascotto, the life-size bronze statue of a student of the ancient training institute was a resounding success with the public, as was also endorsed and acknowledged by others present at the ceremony, including the Gold Medal for Military Valor recipient Sergeant Major Andrea Adorno, the President of the Campania Regional Council, Gennaro Oliviero, the Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, the Prefect of Naples, Michele Di Bari, the President of the National Association of Nunziatella Alumni, Fulvio Campagnuolo, the General Commander of the Carabinieri, Lieutenant General Salvatore Luongo, the Combatant and Armed Forces Associations, and many other military and civilian authorities.

Thrilled by the public ovation his bronze medal earned, Maestro Sepe, who also designed the special edition of the 2025 calendar celebrating the tradition and excellence of the Nunziatella, did not hesitate to express his satisfaction with what happened.

"The exhibition of my work in Piazza del Plebiscito outside the Gran Caffè Gambrinus- Sepe said- it was a great emotion. Also because overlooking one of the largest and most beautiful squares in the world, my sculpture incredibly achieved extraordinary public success with thousands of selfies, photos and affectionate hugs.

In the wake of the emotional response to what happened, the idea that emerged was to create an outdoor exhibition of the work, permanent or semi-permanent, always respecting, of course, the artistic and cultural needs of the city.

It would be wonderful, and I would like my idea to transform into a real appeal to the city and its institutions to create an outdoor exhibition—if not permanent, then long-lasting—to allow those who appreciated the work in memory of Nunziatella to once again be able to emotionally reflect on it."

Domenico Sepe's work is really beautiful, but I don't know if it's right to place it in Piazza del Plebiscito. People should have space to walk and not be distracted by statues. Also, the sculpture seems a bit small compared to the size of the square. Many tourists are happy, but I think there are other priorities in the city. However, Maestro Sepe did a good job and his passion is evident.
