“Face Pass”, the biometric facial recognition system for passengers on the 15pm Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt, was launched today. Napoli in Frankfurt.
This service allows travellers on flight LH335 to pass through security and board using a biometric recognition system that reduces waiting times and improves the airport experience.Passengers interested in this technology must go to the totems located near Lufthansa check-in points to register their boarding pass and identity documents, as well as scan their face using a dedicated camera.
Registration allows access to a biometric path indicated by specific signs, both for security checks and for the gate, where boarding takes place in self-service mode, showing only the face, without needing to show the boarding pass or other documents.
“Face pass”, designed to ensure maximum security, was developed by Gesac, the company that manages the airports of Naples and Salerno, in collaboration with Lufthansa and with the technology of Sita, leader in aviation telecommunications.
Roberto Barbieri, CEO of GESAC, explained: “Our goal is to accelerate innovation and digital evolution, progressively extending biometric recognition to all departing passengers to improve their satisfaction, simplify processes and optimize safety and operational efficiency.”
Gabriella Galantis, Senior Director Sales Southern Europe of the Lufthansa Group, added: “The launch of the biometric system in Naples is an important milestone for the modernization and simplification of travel. We are excited to collaborate with Gesac in this pilot project, which demonstrates our commitment to advanced and secure technological solutions, improving efficiency and comfort in airport processes.”

this new facial recognition system seems very interesting but i am afraid that there are privacy and data security issues. it is nice that the waiting times are reduced but i hope it works well and there are no errors with the registrations. also, i wonder if all passengers can use it or just some. anyway, let's see how it goes.
