Naples. Street thug Antonio Riccio, originally from Quarto, who on May 5th, on Via Leopardi in Fuorigrotta, trampled and killed 27-year-old Rita Granata without providing assistance, was sentenced to eight years in prison, had his license revoked, and ordered to pay civil compensation to his relatives and court costs.

The young woman died after 4 days of agony in hospital. Antonio Riccio, accused of aggravated road homicide and failure to provide assistance, was sentenced to the maximum penalty foreseen in the trial that took place with an abbreviated procedure before the preliminary hearing judge Campanile del court in Naples.

"Despite the ruling in our favor, we remain deeply angry at having lost a daughter in such an absurd way. He thought only of himself, both immediately after the events and throughout the trial, without ever apologizing to us, adding further pain to an already broken family," commented the family members who held a sit-in outside the Naples courthouse this morning.
