Naples. Piazza del Plebiscito hosted the swearing-in ceremony this morning for the students of the 237th "Lieutenant Colonel Enrico Giammarco Gold Medal for Military Valor" Course of the Nunziatella Military School, who took the Oath of Allegiance to the Italian Republic.

The ceremony was held in the presence of the Undersecretary of State for Defense, Senator Isabella Rauti, the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Luciano Portolano, the Chief of the Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Carmine Masiello, and the Commander for Training, Specialization and Doctrine of the Army, Lieutenant General Carlo Lamanna.

The solemn oath, which took place in front of the Institute's flag and was sealed with the reading of the traditional formula, pronounced by the Commander of the "Nunziatella" Military School, Colonel Alberto Valent, sanctioned the full entry of the 57 students into the ranks of one of the most prestigious military institutes in the Army.

The Undersecretary of State for Defense, addressing the young students, said: "In exercising my mandate for the training of civilian and military Defense personnel, I have often visited the Nunziatella School. I know its history, which began on November 18, 1787, and its vocation: a symbolic place that prepares 'for life and arms,' where citizens rooted in noble and metahistorical values are formed, where future commanders and aware leaders are raised.

Those who choose to attend a military school at a young age make a courageous choice, they put themselves to the test, and they put their heart and soul into everything. You are and will be young men and women who will not be overwhelmed by events but who will govern their future with intelligence and determination, with clarity but always with humanity and good feelings.

The Chief of the Defence Staff stated: "With the oath taken this morning, you, the students of the 237th course, have consciously accepted the responsibility of becoming reference figures for those around you, authoritative players in our society, and future leaders of our nation.

Don't be afraid. Look at the world and the future with positivity, but know that the path will not be without obstacles and will require a lot of commitment and sacrifice. Always be proud of who you are and what you represent. Welcome to the great defense family.

General Luciano Portolano continued: "With this morning's oath, you, the students of the 237th course, have consciously accepted the responsibility of becoming: figures of reference for those around you, authoritative players in our society, and future leaders of our nation."

In his speech, Lieutenant General Carmine Masiello emphasized: "Education is a central challenge for society and institutions, and it is a particularly arduous task. We must guide our young people, who must not be afraid of making mistakes, because this stifles innovation and does not help growth. They must be encouraged to pursue their dreams, to always do the right thing, because the greater the integrity and honesty that guide them, the stronger their personalities and their ability to participate in the positive evolution of the Institution.

I am honored to welcome you to the Army family; a family that rejoices in the thanks, smiles, and handshakes of the citizens and people it serves. This is a special day you will remember for a lifetime; it will bind you inextricably to the values of the Republic, the principles of the Constitution, and the laws of the Fatherland.

Whatever your choices for the future, your skills and abilities, your talents and responsibilities will intersect and be conditioned by the solemn promise made to Italy."

A highlight of the ceremony was the handing over of the sword by the third-year student to the first-year student, an important passage of traditions that are passed down from generation to generation among the school's students.

The ceremony was attended, among others, by: Sergeant Major Andrea Adorno, Gold Medal for Military Valor recipient; Dr. Gennaro Oliviero, President of the Campania Regional Council; Professor Gaetano Manfredi, Mayor of Naples; Dr. Michele Di Bari, Prefect of Naples; Engineer Fulvio Campagnuolo, President of the National Association of Nunziatella Alumni; and Lieutenant General Salvatore Luongo, General Commander of the Carabinieri.

And also the Combatant and Armed Forces Associations, other military and civilian authorities, including diplomatic representatives, the Judiciary, the University, the Regions, local authorities, and other government agencies. For over two centuries, the "Nunziatella" Military School has been a center of excellence in training, distinguished by an integrated approach that guarantees high standards in teaching, sports training, and military education, preparing students not only for university and a future career in the Armed Forces, but also for any professional sector.
