As part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the “E Zézi” Group, known for its commitment to popular music as a tool for social redemption, the art workshop La Scarabattola has created a work entitled “Favoloso Marcello”. This terracotta figurine pays homage to the musician and singer-songwriter Marcello Colasurdo, an emblematic figure of the Neapolitan musical tradition, who passed away last year.
“Fabulous Marcello” at the Giacomo Leopardi Social Library Museum
The sculpture was placed in the “Fabulous Nativity Scene” of the Basilica of Santa Maria della Sanità and will be permanently visible in the Museo Biblioteca Sociale Giacomo Leopardi in Casalnuovo di Napoli. The inclusion of Marcello Colasurdo in the nativity scene by the Scuotto brothers symbolizes a tribute to an artist who has marked the musical culture of the region.
Celebrations and Musical Tribute
On the occasion of this tribute, a musical event is planned at the Museo Biblioteca Sociale Giacomo Leopardi on December 8 and 15 at 11:00. The event will see the participation of a representation of the Gruppo Operaio E Zézi, of which Colasurdo was one of the founders. The initiative will take place at the museum located in Via Roma 148 in Casalnuovo di Napoli, under the direction of Giovanni Nappi. The participation of E Zézi is a tribute to the memory of Colasurdo and to the long musical tradition that the group represents.

I read that La Scarabattola made 'Favoloso Marcello', a sculpture that is beautiful but I don't understand why it is in the nativity scene. Marcello was important but perhaps there would be other ways to honor him, like concerts or similar things.
