The Court of Appeal of Salerno has confirmed the precautionary measures for Fabio Cagnazzo, Lazzaro Cioffi and Giuseppe Cipriano, accused of the murder of the mayor of Pollica, Angelo Vassallo. The judges have rejected the appeals presented by the defense attorneys of the three suspects, reaffirming the decisions previously adopted by the GIP.
The detailed reasons for the sentence will be filed within 45 days. However, from what emerged during the hearing, the Court has deemed solid the accusations advanced by the Salerno Prosecutor's Office, based on wiretaps and statements of some collaborators of justice, who would have provided relevant elements against the suspects.
The murder of Angel Vassallo, which took place 14 years ago, remains an emblematic case that has deeply affected public opinion. The investigations, characterized by a long and complex evolution, have so far involved four people, all currently in prison. Among them, Romulus Ridosso, a former collaborator of justice already detained for other crimes, has chosen not to appeal.
