The Angelo Vassallo Sindaco Pescatore Foundation, which has been committed for years to promoting legality and protecting local administrators, launches a strong appeal to the new President of the National ANCI, Mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi, and to all Italian municipalities. The invitation is to follow the example of the Municipality of Fiorano Modenese by joining forces—collectively or individually—to join as a civil party in the trial for the murder of Angelo Vassallo, brutally killed on September 5, 2010.
The trial, which currently involves four people accused, is not only an opportunity to bring justice to a dramatic event, but also a crucial moment to reaffirm the institutions' commitment to legality, justice and the protection of local administrators who work every day to benefit communities.
Dario Vassallo, Angelo's brother and President of the Foundation, emphasizes the importance of this initiative: “Angelo Vassallo was a man in love with his land and his role as Mayor.

The Municipality of Fiorano Modenese has already shown the way, deciding to be a leader in this initiative of justice and solidarity. The Foundation hopes that other Municipalities, united or individually, will follow its example, recognizing that the union of institutions is the most effective bulwark against threats to democracy and legality.
Constituting oneself as a Civil Party does not only mean honoring the memory of Angelo Vassallo, but also to take a clear stand against all forms of violence, intimidation and abuse that threaten those who work with honesty and transparency for their community.
The Angelo Vassallo Foundation therefore renews its appeal to all Italian Municipalities. Under the guidance of ANCI and its President, Gaetano Manfredi, it is possible to build a strong and united movement to defend the work and dignity of local administrators, guaranteeing them greater safety and serenity in serving citizens.

The idea of becoming a civil party is interesting and could really help strengthen legality in municipalities, but I'm not sure that all mayors are willing to follow the example. There needs to be greater awareness among citizens and administrators.
