Anti-drug operation in Rome: twenty arrests
ROME (ITALPRESS) - As part of a large-scale anti-drug operation, the Carabinieri of the Ostia Group arrested twenty people on a warrant from the Anti-Drugs Division of the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office. Of those under investigation, sixteen were taken to prison, while four were placed under house arrest. Seven additional individuals, including three women, are implicated in the investigation and are charged with various counts of conspiracy to traffic drugs, possession, dealing, and international drug trafficking.
The investigation and the criminal organization
The investigation, launched in June 2021 by the Carabinieri of the Ostia Investigative Unit, under the guidance of the Rome District Anti-Mafia Directorate, brought to light an alleged criminal organization involved in importing cocaine from the Netherlands to the capital.

Seizures and operating procedures
During the investigation, which lasted until May 2022, the Carabinieri seized over 32 kilos of cocaine, worth approximately €1,5 million, and €174 in cash. Among the seized materials, three couriers were arrested. The vehicles used for trafficking, registered to third parties, were modified with automated double bottoms to conceal the drugs. Investigators identified four properties between Rome and Latina where the substances were stored. One of those arrested is a convicted felon known as "the billionaire," previously implicated in similar investigations.
Structure of the organization
According to investigators, the organization had a well-defined pyramid structure. At the top was a man living in the Lido di Ostia area, who managed a diverse group of collaborators, including couriers and those responsible for storing and distributing the drugs. Investigations suggest that women also held key roles within the network.

I think the organization was very well structured, but the authorities need to do more to fight drug trafficking in general.
I agree with you, but I think we need more prevention instead of just arrests. People continue to use it despite everything.
The anti-drug operation in Rome is very important, but I don't understand why there are so many arrests. Drugs are a big problem, but the solutions are not easy. Let's hope that these arrests lead to an improvement in the situation.
