Naples. The leader of the gang of robbers who moved from the Spanish Quarter to the Costa del Sol in Spain to rob tourists of valuable watches was Paolo Iuliucci, already implicated in the 2012 murder of young Vincenzo Masiello.
The gang of "Rolex robbers" from Naples consisted of five people, including one woman, all of whom were arrested yesterday following a joint operation between the Spanish National Police and the Italian State Police.
The five people were arrested in Marbella, following an investigation the Spanish have dubbed "Zucca Paranza," which also involved the Flying Squad of the Naples police headquarters, particularly the "Anti-Robbery" section, which was crucial in identifying the suspects.
They had their operational base in Mijas, near Malaga
The group, with its operational base in Mijas, near Malaga, was led by Paolo Iuliucci and aimed to rob luxury tourists on the Costa del Sol. The investigations began after the theft of a valuable Rolex from 50.000 euros to a British tourist on holiday in Puerto Banús. The arrested, aged between 18 and 52, are believed to be linked to organised crime in Naples and used motorbikes for the robberies, with the woman in charge of identifying the victims.
The arrests were carried out by the Robbery Group of the Malaga Provincial Police Station together with the “Rolex Group” of the Marbella police headquarters, which has been collaborating with the Italian authorities for about two years. In the gang's apartment in Mijas near Malaga, false documents, 2.710 euros in cash, a car, a motorbike, various helmets and clothing used during the robberies were found.
