Pollica. Stefano Pisani, mayor of Pollica, has commented on the news of the four arrests for the murder of Angelo Vassallo, the "fisherman mayor" of Pollica, killed on September 5, 2010.
“I am happy because this provision, compared to the previous registration in the register of suspects, is much more consistent and finally nourishes the hope that we can reach, after a long time, at least a judicial truth, given that they will not give Angelo back to us” but reading the names of members or former members of the police force “hurts a lot, more than you can imagine”.
Among those arrested is Carabinieri Colonel Fabio Cagnazzo , as well as former Brigadier Lazzaro Cioffi. Reading those names, Pisani says, is painful, "because every day you try to work hard for the land you love and imagine having to confront and fight, knowing who your potential adversaries are.
It hurts when those who should be with you and rowing in the same direction are the ones who oppose you in the most violent and determined way. It is something we never wanted to see, members of the police force receiving a precautionary measure for the murder of a mayor, our mayor.
We are waiting to know the judicial truth, but - he concludes - it is clear that we are in an important phase, otherwise the judiciary would never have gone as far as a precautionary measure".

We hope that light can finally be shed on this tragedy after such a long time.
