Two Caserta police officers, serving in Giugliano, averted a family tragedy by saving a woman who was threatening suicide. The family thanked the "guardians of life" in a moving letter.
A night that could have turned into a tragedy instead became a story of heroism and humanity. Two police officers from Caserta, AP, originally from Macerata Campania, and BDC, from San Marcellino, both on duty at the Giugliano police station, intervened promptly to save a woman who was threatening to take her own life.
The alarm was raised when the operations center received a dramatic call: a woman had expressed her intention to jump into the void from the stairwell of the building where she lived, on the third floor. The officers, who quickly arrived on the scene, found the woman in the balance, with one leg already over the parapet.

With extraordinary lucidity, the two police officers started a delicate operation. One of the two officers remained on the ground floor to establish a dialogue with the woman, trying to calm her down and gain time. In the meantime, the other approached silently, climbing the stairs. When the woman let herself fall, the police officer reacted with a lightning reflex, grabbing her by the arm and dragging her to safety, avoiding a certain death.
The intervention prevented not only a personal tragedy, but also a devastating trauma for the woman's family, a married mother of two small children. Although the woman was not being treated for psychiatric illnesses, a moment of deep despair had put her life at risk.
The medical staff also intervened on site, taking charge of the woman for the necessary checks. Subsequently, she and her family wrote a letter of thanks to the officers, defined as "guardian angels" for the courage and promptness shown.
