In the prestigious setting of the Auditorium of the Pompeii Excavations, on November 15, 2024, at 17:13 PM, the new volume in the "Quaderni di Studi Pompeiani" series, published by the International Association "Friends of Pompeii" (ETS), will be presented. The work, titled "The House of C. Julius Polybius in Pompeii (IX, 1, 3-XNUMX) and the Bronzes of the Triclinium (EE)," was edited by archaeologists Fausto Zevi and Elsa Nuzzo.

### An in-depth analysis

This volume offers a comprehensive study of the triclinium bronzes discovered in the famous House of Julius Polybius in Pompeii. The analysis also extends to the historical and cultural context, studying the characteristics of the inhabitants and the architectural evolution of the house. While maintaining Samnite architecture, it underwent modifications up until the eruption of 79 AD, with the merging of two terraced houses at the end of the XNUMXnd century BC.

### Insights and restorations

In addition to describing the building's pictorial furnishings, the book presents an overview of Pompeii's triclinium furnishings, including a chapter dedicated to the restoration of the bronzes, carried out by the Central Institute of Restoration in Rome and the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence.

Fausto Zevi, known for his academic career and as Superintendent of Naples and Pompeii, is co-curating the project with Elsa Nuzzo, an archaeologist specializing in Vesuvian archaeology. The presentation will be entrusted to Stefano De Caro, former Director General of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and ICCROM, and Paola Miniero, former director of the Stabiae excavations and the National Museum of Baia Castle, who will provide a valuable introduction to the text, destined to become an authoritative contribution to the field of Pompeii archaeology.
