The Royal Palace of Naples, a distinctive symbol of the city, is currently undergoing significant restoration and conservation work. The restoration of the Grand Staircase, a significant architectural feature that has regained its original magnificence after a 100-day restoration, was recently completed.

### Restoration of the Grand Staircase

The Grand Staircase, famous for being described by Montesquieu in 1729 as "the most beautiful staircase in Europe," has undergone a meticulous restoration. Initially designed by Francesco Antonio Picchiatti between 1651 and 1666 and later redesigned by Gaetano Genovese in the XNUMXth century, the staircase had suffered extensive damage over time. The restoration was conducted by the CO.MA.BER Consortium and the company Officine Marmi Italia, under the direction of architect Stefano Gei. The Carrara marble surfaces were cleaned and polished, restoring them to their former splendor.

### Interventions at the Royal Chapel

In addition to the Grand Staircase, another significant project is underway at the Palace's Royal Chapel. Safety improvements are nearing completion, while restoration is about to begin, aimed at addressing the damage caused by water infiltration on the decorated surfaces. The architect in charge, Almerinda Padricelli, emphasized that these interventions are part of the MIC's Grand Project, designed to enhance the damaged areas through meticulous restoration and in-depth research.

### "Working Class" Exhibition

Concurrent with the restoration, the Palazzo hosts the photography exhibition "Working Class," conceived by Barbara Balbi and Almerinda Padricelli. Curated by Luigia Gambino and Francesca Di Martino, the exhibition features 15 photographs depicting the restorers' work, with a particular emphasis on the importance of workplace safety. The images, taken by Camillo Ripaldi, are displayed inside the construction site, offering visitors a unique insight into the challenges and skills required to preserve historical heritage.
