Naples. Yesterday evening, Wednesday 27 November 2024, the first section of the Court of Appeal of Naples, president Giovanni Carbone, issued the sentence of the trial
Arena + 25 reforming part of the penalties inflicted on affiliates and entrepreneurs friends of the Cimmino clan.
For these facts, in October 2021, the Neapolitan DDA executed a precautionary custody order in prison against 53 people, dismantling the Camorra group led by the boss Luigi Cimmino, who later became a collaborator of justice, as well as putting entrepreneurs and employees on trial for the awarding of contracts in the hospitals in the hilly area.
The Sacco cousins, Raffaele born in '77 and '68 (assisted by lawyers Bruno Von Arx, Andrea Imperato and Alfonso Quarto) who were in charge of managing the canteens within the hospital facilities, were acquitted of external competition in mafia association and sentenced for corruption to 6 years and 2 months compared to the 11 years and 8 months received in the first instance.
Other reductions among the white-collar crimes were recognized for Alessandro Esposito (defended by Mario Griffo), with a sentence reduced from 12 years to 9 years and 1 month. For Mariangela Russo, defended by the lawyer Edoardo Cardillo, the sentence was reduced from 6 years and 10 months to 5 years and 6 months.
A significant reduction in sentence was also granted to Camaldoli boss Salvatore Arena, under house arrest since March 5 (defended by lawyers Immacolata Romano and Giuseppe Milazzo).
In the first instance, Totore Arena, known as Fresella, was accused of being the leader and organizer and in fact the PM asked for a sentence of 15 years, but his lawyers obtained the much more lenient sentence of 10 years and 10 months, today further reduced to 9 years and 6 months.
Seven years in prison for Diego Cimmino
Per Franco Diego Cimmino, in a protected location because he is the son of the repentant Luigi, the sentence imposed is 7 years compared to 9 years and 4 months of the first degree. The sentences against Andrea Basile (18 years and 4 months), Giovanni Caruson (14 years) and Mario Simeoli (9 years and 8 months) were confirmed. The defense team also includes lawyers Alfonso Furgiuele, Lelio Della Pietra, Claudio Davino, Emilio Martino and Giuseppe De Gregorio.

I cannot say that I completely agree with the court's decisions, but it is important that each case be analyzed individually to avoid injustices.
The issue of sentences is always a delicate one, especially in cases like this. It should be considered that reductions can influence the perception of justice in society.
The case of Naples is complex, but it seems to me that there have been many reductions in sentences. I don't know if it's right or wrong, but justice must take its course, I just hope there are no mistakes.
