In recent days, along the A1 highway, a patrol car from the Orvieto Highway Police stopped a semi-trailer. The vehicle, a truck carrying a seemingly harmless load—fresh fruit and vegetables—was proceeding calmly toward northern Italy. But the officers' intuition was immediately alerted by one detail: the driver, upon seeing the sirens, became visibly nervous.
Suspicious, the police officers decided to subject the vehicle to a more thorough check. The meticulous and complex inspection focused on the trailer's side compartments, where the driver's tools are usually stored. With the help of specialized tools, the officers removed panels and coverings, discovering a cleverly hidden double bottom.
Inside this secret hideout, neatly packed in trolleys and shopping bags, lay packages of hashish, perfectly compressed and ready to be released onto the market. The quantity was impressive: over 270 kilograms of the drug, with an estimated street value of over €1.3 million. A veritable illegal treasure, hidden in broad daylight among crates of fruit and vegetables.
The man, a fifty-year-old with no criminal record from Sant'Antonio Abate in the province of Naples, was taken to prison. Investigations are still ongoing to trace the suppliers and final recipients of the drugs, which would have been distributed in the drug dealing areas of northern Italy.
