The preliminary hearing judge (GUP) has sentenced several prisoners and their families to sentences ranging between 3 years and 6 months and 2 years and 10 months for having introduced drugs into the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison.
A woman, however, chose to be tried with the ordinary procedure and was sent for trial. The position of a prison police officer, involved in the case, was separated from the proceedings, as he was surprised by his own penitentiary colleagues.
The four sentences, pronounced by the GUP of the Court of Naples North, Caterina Anna Arpino, in an abbreviated trial, inflicted 3 years and 2 months to Davide Reale, 31 years old from Caserta; 3 years and 6 months to Antonio De Crescenzo, 37 years old from Castel Volturno; and 2 years and 10 months each to Luana Morrone, 34 years old from Castel Volturno, and Angela Ucciero, 30, also from Castel Volturno. Anna Bruno, 31, from San Nicola la Strada, has instead chosen the ordinary rite and will be tried separately.
The investigation by the North Naples Prosecutor's Office revealed that several women, partners or wives of inmates, allegedly paid a prison police officer in Parete to facilitate the smuggling of narcotics into the prison. The agreement called for a €900 fee, split between two meetings at the McDonald's in the Jambo shopping center in Trentola Ducenta, during which the women allegedly handed over both the money and the drugs to the officer.
However, other prison officers, suspecting the situation, monitored the officer and, shortly before the start of his shift, found 102 grams of hashish and 480 euros in cash on him, thus leading to his indictment.
