Twenty-five penitentiary police officers Trapani have been hit by precautionary measures for serious accusations of torture and abuse of power to the detriment of detainees of Pietro Cerulli prison. Eleven officers were placed under house arrest, while fourteen others were suspended from duty.
The investigations, launched in 2021 following complaints from inmates, have brought to light a disturbing picture of systematic violence committed by officers in places without video surveillance. The installation of new cameras has made it possible to document the repeated attacks suffered by inmates.
In total, there are forty-six people under investigation, in various capacities, for the crimes of torture, abuse of authority, ideological falsehood and slander. The order of the Judge for Preliminary Investigations of Trapani was carried out by a large operation coordinated by the Central Investigative Unit of the Penitentiary Police.
