Elderly Fraud in Casavatore – The Carabinieri of the Casavatore Station have arrested a 19-year-old man, suspected of having defrauded a 92-year-old woman. The boy has been placed under house arrest following a precautionary custody order issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Napoli North, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office Aversa.
The episode dates back to October, when the elderly woman received a phone call from a man pretending to be her nephew, telling her he had an urgent financial problem and asking for 2.000 euros in cash. The man then informed the woman that a supposed employee of Poste Italiane would come to collect the sum directly from her home.
A few minutes after the call, a young man showed up at the old woman's door, taking the cash. The woman's daughters, suspicious of the boy's presence, tried to intervene, but the young man managed to quickly disappear. Thanks to the images from the video surveillance systems in the area, the Carabinieri were able to collect significant evidence against the 19-year-old, who is now under house arrest pending further developments.
