EU: Parliament and Council reach agreement on budget

ROME (ITALPRESS) - A major agreement has been reached between the European Parliament and the Council on the EU's annual budget for 2025, with a total budget of €199,4 billion. This budget will meet the financial needs required to support the European Union's political priorities, focusing in particular on the most pressing emergencies.

Priorities and Areas of Intervention

Among the main priorities of the new budget is the support to the populations affected by the floods that have recently affected some Member States. In addition, the continuity of funding will be ensured for priority programmes such as Horizon Europe and Erasmus+, which are essential for promoting research and cultural exchanges among young Europeans.

Review of the Financial Framework

The agreement also provides for a revision of the multiannual financial framework, which includes strong support for Ukraine, a key aspect of this budget.

New funding is also planned to promote European competitiveness through a platform dedicated to strategic technologies. Additional funds will be allocated to address the consequences of the current crisis in the Middle East and the growing migratory pressures affecting the region.

Next Steps

To become operational, the 2025 annual budget must be formally adopted by both the Council of the European Union and the Parliament. The final vote in the Chamber is scheduled for November 27.

this budget agreement seems important but also complicated to me, there are many things to consider and I hope that the funds will be used well. the floods are a serious problem and we must give help to those in need, but I do not know if the other priorities such as europe horizon and erasmus+ will be funded as they should. we will see what happens on november 27th.
