During the night, in Orta di Atella, a sudden sinkhole opened on Via Diaz, just steps from homes, nearly causing tragedy. The subsidence, likely caused by water seepage, ripped open the street for several meters, creating a deep chasm that compromised the stability of the surrounding buildings.
The collapse affected the front of a building, forcing the evacuation of three families, a total of seven people. As a precaution, four other families living nearby were evacuated. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported, a near miracle given the extent of the damage.
The commander of the municipal police, Amedeo Morrone, the head of the municipal technical office, Vito Buonuomo, and the surveyor Giulio Mascolo, accompanied by the mayor Antonio Santillo, the councilor Pasquale Pellino, the councilor Nicola Margarita and the president of the city council Massaro, promptly responded to the scene.
