WhatsApp has launched a new feature that many users have been waiting for: automatic transcription of voice messages into text. This new feature is currently available in several languages and on iOS 16 or later devices. The goal is to facilitate access to content in situations where listening to the message is inconvenient. Transcription occurs directly on the device, ensuring maximum privacy.
Feature Availability
Transcription is already supported in several languages. For Android users, available languages include English, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. iPhone users with iOS 16 or later can use transcription in a wider range of languages, including Arabic, Korean, French, and Japanese, among many others. With iOS 17, language support expands to include Danish, Hebrew, Finnish, and more.
Enabling Transcription
To enable transcription on Android, you need to access the WhatsApp settings, navigate to the “Chat” section and activate the appropriate option. iPhone users, however, can do the same through the path Settings > Chat, keeping in mind that the “Hey Siri” function must be active.
Once activated, the transcription can be viewed by long-pressing on the voice message of interest and selecting the “Transcribe” option. Transcription problems may arise if the language of the message does not match the one selected or if there is background noise.

The voice message transcription feature on WhatsApp is a very interesting new feature, but it needs some improvements. It doesn't always work well and sometimes it makes strange errors, especially if there is noise. I hope they will update it.
