The Civil Protection of the Campania Region has issued a weather alert of level yellow for hydrogeological criticality due to storms, accompanied by a further warning for strong winds and rough seas. The alerts will be in force from 18:00 PM today, Sunday 22 December, until to 18:00pm tomorrow, Monday 23 December, and will affect the entire regional territory.
According to the forecast, scattered precipitation is expected, also in the form of showers or thunderstorms, locally of strong intensity. Strong or very strong winds are also reported, with potentially intense gusts, and rough or very rough seas, with the risk of storm surges along the exposed coasts.
Risks for the territory
The Civil Protection warns that the weather conditions could generate hydrogeological instability phenomena, including flooding, overflowing of watercourses, runoff on roads, landslides and falling rocks, aggravated by the fragility of the soil.
Recommendations to Municipalities
The mayors of Campania are invited to:
- Monitor public greenery and verify the stability of structures exposed to strong winds and wave motion.
- Activate the Municipal Operations Centers and implement the measures provided for in the civil protection plans.
Please remember that the alert for strong winds and rough seas, although not associated with a specific color code, still requires attention and timely interventions to ensure the safety of the population.
The Civil Protection Department invites all citizens to exercise maximum caution, avoiding unnecessary travel in the areas most exposed to risks.
