The ambitious project to strengthen the Italian railway network continues with a new step forward in the construction of the line High Speed Salerno-Reggio Calabria. Italian Railway Network (RFI), Part of FS Group, has assigned the executive design and works for the installation of theMulti-station Computerized Central Machine (ACCM) in the lot 1st Battipaglia-Romagnano and for interconnection with the existing line Battipaglia-Potenza.
The contract, worth 35 million euro and financed with funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), was awarded to a group of companies composed of Hitachi Rail STS, Television ed Heirs Giuseppe MercuriThe innovative ACCM system will be supported by the implementation of theErtms (European Rail Traffic Management System), the most advanced European system for the control of rail traffic, already in use on the main high-speed lines. This system will allow a safer and more efficient management of rail traffic, ensuring greater punctuality and safety.

The new high-speed line will extend for 35 kilometers from the station Battipaglia maximum Romagna, with a connection to the Battipaglia-Potenza line. The completion of the works, scheduled for 2026, will allow travel times to be reduced up to 20 minutes on the itinerary Battipaglia-Potenza-Metaponto, also improving connections with the adriatic ridge.
A project to reduce the North-South gap
The High Speed Salerno-Reggio Calabria represents a strategic infrastructure for the country, aimed at strengthening the connection between North and South and reduce territorial gaps. "The project will not only improve mobility but will also contribute to the economic development of Southern Italy by strengthening infrastructure in traditionally disadvantaged areas.", as stated in the RFI press release.

The article is interesting and informative but I don't know if the project is really necessary, there are too many expenses in Italy. I hope the works will be completed on schedule, otherwise it will be another failure for our railway network.
