Angri. An operation conducted by the Guardia di Finanza led to the seizure of almost 1.000 liters of alcoholic products, including already bottled liquors and pure alcohol intended for illegal production. The operation, aimed at combating fraud in the excise and indirect tax sector, uncovered a clandestine distillery in the municipality of Angri.
The men of the Company of Nocera Inferiore they identified a warehouse of about 20 square meters used as an illegal factory, without authorizations and in violation of health and hygiene regulations. Inside the premises, 984 liters of alcoholic product were discovered, of which 300 liters of pure contraband alcohol stored in a plastic tank and 684 liters of artisanal liqueurs - including grappa, limoncello, meloncello, fragolino, pistacchio, bananino and cioccolato - ready to be placed on the market.
The person responsible, an Italian citizen, was reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office and will have to answer to the charges of "evading the assessment and payment of the excise duty on alcohol and alcoholic beverages" and "receiving stolen goods".
Excise fraud not only damages the state coffers, but distorts market dynamics, penalizing companies that operate legally. In addition, smuggled liquor, without quality controls, may contain impurities and substances harmful to the health of consumers.
The Guardia di Finanza has stressed that the fight against these phenomena represents a protection for the legal market and an incentive for entrepreneurial investments.
