The Carabinieri continue their non-stop checks in Naples and the surrounding municipalities to combat the spread of illegal and dangerous firecrackers. Today, numerous operations have led to seizures, arrests and reports.
In the early afternoon, a 48-year-old man, resident in Castellammare di Stabia, was arrested for illegal possession of explosives. During a search, including of the vehicle, the military found ten homemade explosive devices. The man was placed under house arrest pending trial.
In Casoria, two local men, aged 36 and 35, were reported for illegal trade in explosive materials. The Carabinieri caught them while they were selling firecrackers and fireworks at an unauthorized stall. The operation led to the seizure of sixteen kilos of firecrackers.
Also today, in the municipality of Sant'Antonio Abate, the Carabinieri of the Borgoloreto station discovered an illegal firecracker shop, left unattended by some boys who fled at the sight of the patrol. On site, hundreds of fireworks were found, including 200 "magnums" and numerous packages of rockets.
The day's toll is particularly heavy in the western neighborhoods of Naples, Soccavo and Pianura, where ten people were reported for illegally selling fireworks on the street. In the same areas, four arrests were also made: a twenty-year-old and a twenty-four-year-old caught with 19 fireworks of various types and about three kilos of pyrotechnic material; a 35-year-old man who was transporting 79 kilos of illegal fireworks in his car; finally, a nineteen-year-old found with 23 devices and seven kilos of fireworks.
The operations of the Carabinieri aim to guarantee the safety of citizens and prevent incidents related to the improper use of explosive material during the holidays.

It is important that the Carabinieri monitor the sale of illegal firecrackers well, but in my opinion they should do more to inform people about the risks that these can bring, especially during the holidays.
