The apartments of Parco Verde in Caivano “have been occupied by 250 families in recent years. On February 7, like a cleaver, the Naples North prosecutor’s office announced that the families must leave by March 7. I said “if they go under the bridges I have to go too”.
The eternal father sent us this prefect, Michele di Bari, who talked to these people, telling them that no one will end up under the bridge. In the end it was decided to put out 36 families who have problems with the law. That was enough to make me crucify myself…”.
This is what Don Maurizio Patriciello, parish priest of the Church of San Paolo Apostolo in Caivano, said during a hearing at the Anti-Mafia Commission. “You are talking,” the priest told parliamentarians, “to a person who is truly crucified. 1.200 police officers and carabinieri arrived, they guarded the church, I also had to obey the advice of the police forces who told me to be careful.
This earned me the reputation of having kept the church closed to people dying of cold. None of this was true, many did not need it”. Don Patriciello then added that “as the vultures arrived from the right and left, there was a photo of these women with blankets, with a red flag and the symbol of the hammer and sickle.
They made a very serious mistake, a huge strategic mistake, turning a humanitarian problem into a partisan problem”. At the opening of the hearing, the president of the Anti-Mafia commission Chiara Colosimo had reported “yet more threats” addressed to Patriciello, adding: “Don Maurizio is not alone, the entire commission is at his side.
You die, in a broad sense and not just physically, when you are left alone and that is why the fear, which I share, about your overexposure, will not allow us to leave you alone. Know that here you will always find ears ready to listen and legs ready to come to Caivano”.
Colosimo then added: "Unfortunately, net of the threats made public, threats are daily. This must make us question the fact that asking for help cannot become a reason to be exposed like this, neither in Caivano, nor in Green Park, nor anywhere else”.
