Caivano. “Video surveillance in Caivano represents a further step forward in restoring security,” said Alfredo Mantovano, Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council, during his visit to the city today, after a stop in Pozzuoli at Save The Children’s Millegiorni Center.
Mantovano inaugurated the new integrated urban video surveillance system of the local police command, accompanied by the extraordinary commissioner for the redevelopment of Caivano, Fabio Ciciliano, the prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, and the extraordinary commission of the municipality, led by the prefect Filippo Dispenza.
“This is not a natural disaster, but a human disaster, including the decades-long abandonment of the territory itself,” Mantovano explained. “The video surveillance system is not a miracle solution, just as none of the interventions carried out so far are, but it represents an important support for control by the police forces, both municipal and national.”
Mantovano also underlined that "the intervention on Caivano it was not an isolated action.” The initiatives aim both to provide opportunities for the population, especially young people, and to ensure respect for the law against those who have tried to impose an alternative rule. “The bad guys now know that their every potentially criminal action can be observed.”
The video surveillance system, currently partially operational, will cover 97% of the municipal territory of Caivano. It will consist of over 200 latest-generation cameras, capable of 360-degree filming and equipped with license plate reading and analysis systems. The project, implemented thanks to municipal funds of 1,6 million euros, represents a significant investment in the safety of the territory.

Honestly, I don't know if video surveillance in Caivano is the right solution. We need to see how it will work, but I hope it can help the situation. However, there are also other problems to deal with and not only this one.
