Naples.
Two prisoners of Moroccan origin attempted to escape from prison juvenile of Nisida yesterday. The news was given by the Autonomous Union of Penitentiary Police (Sappe), through the voice of the Campania regional vice-coordinator of the juvenile sector, Sabatino De Rosa.According to De Rosa, the alarm was raised immediately and the searches led to the rapid capture of one of the two escapees, found hiding on a pole near the Third Ward, a strategic point that would have allowed him to climb over the surrounding wall. The second prisoner was instead found about half an hour later, near the slopes of the island, hidden among the thick vegetation that covers it.
Il Know points the finger at the management of the Neapolitan juvenile penitentiary institute, deemed inadequate to the problems and difficulties that afflict it. The union denounces a management of personnel "totally distant from what should be the regular employment of personnel in compliance with the rank that one holds and the role that one should cover", generating a strong demotivation among the agents.
While praising the intervention of the Penitentiary Police personnel who prevented the double evasion, the Sappe expresses concern about the inertia it perceives, suggesting a change in the director of the juvenile prison, who has been in office for 25 years.
Donato Capece, general secretary of Sappe, expressed closeness and solidarity to the prison police officers of Nisida, but also denounced the “failure of the Department of Juvenile and Community Justice”, defined as a “clone of the Dap” with a massive use of energy in the control of a limited number of detained minors, “confirming the imprisonment of young adults until they reach the age of 25”. This situation, according to Capece, is one of the main causes of the current “ungovernability” of juvenile prisons. The secretary general concludes by stating that without adequate recognition of the professionalism of Penitentiary Police officers, “no service and no experimentation will have the slightest chance of success”.
