“Criature”: The film and its protagonists
Distributed by Medusa Film, “Criature” presents the story of Mimmo Sannino, a former teacher who has chosen to dedicate himself to the educational recovery of children in Napoli. Sannino uses circus arts as an educational tool, trying to bring young people who have dropped out of school back into school. This commitment, aimed at obtaining a middle school diploma for the kids, takes place in a complex environment, marked by the presence of the Camorra.
Circus art as an educational tool
Circus elements, symbols of appearance and dreams, are used by Mimmo to bring young people closer to a positive alternative. His initiatives include lessons on stilts and readings of classics such as “The Baron in the Trees”. Thanks also to the support of Anna, a social worker, Mimmo manages to make an impact in the lives of young people with difficult stories, such as Daniela, Margherita, Ciro and Bruno. However, his work is not always viewed favorably by the families of the neighborhood, creating tensions between dreams and reality. This initiative aims to stimulate a reflection on resilience and the possible change through education and art, addressing the challenges posed by a complex social context.

It's an interesting thing what Mimmo Sannino does for the young people in Naples, but I don't know if circus art can really help the kids to go back to school. There are many factors at play, and maybe more is needed.
