Castel Volturno. About fifteen families, who currently live in the Parco Saraceno complex, will be forced to leave their apartments by tomorrow. Most of them are squatting illegally, without paying any rent to the owner company, Mirabella Mare Spa, linked to the Coppola family, the builder of the complex.
The ordinance of eviction It was issued by the mayor Pasquale Marrandino, after having taken note of the outcome of an inspection conducted by the Carabinieri and the firefighters, by order of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere led by Pierpaolo Bruni.
The inspection highlighted the “non-usability of the spaces of the entire complex”, aggravated by static dangers and critical hygienic-sanitary conditions. The situation represents a serious risk for the safety of the inhabitants.
An unfinished project and increasing degradation
Parco Saraceno, which hosted for about fifteen years the families of the soldiers who later moved to Gricignano d'Aversa, should have been transformed into a symbol of rebirth for Castel Volturno. A redevelopment project, included in a program contract, included the construction of a tourist port, but the work never started.
In the meantime, the complex has been occupied by families who have settled there in increasingly degrading conditions. While in the past there were around sixty families, the progressive deterioration of the structures and the actions of the police have led many occupants to leave their homes, including numerous migrants.
Time is running out
In December 2018, some families left the complex after reaching a financial agreement with the owners. Others, however, continued to resist despite the difficulties. Now, for those who remained, the moment of eviction is inexorably approaching.
If they do not leave voluntarily, Prefect Lucia Volpe will establish the methods of intervention, which could include the use of law enforcement to definitively liberate Parco Saraceno.

It is a shame that these families have to leave their homes, even if they squat illegally. The situation in Parco Saraceno is very complex and the hygienic conditions are really worrying. Let's hope that a solution can be found.
