Naples. A video that immortalizes a boy, presumably a minor, while breaking a young Lebanese cedar in two in Piazza San Giovanni Maggiore Pignatelli in Naples, has been circulating on social media for hours. Numerous citizens have reported the episode to the deputy Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
The act of vandalism, which occurred in front of a square crowded with young people during the night, has sparked outrage. The tree had been replanted only two years ago, after the felling of a majestic 700-year-old cedar, removed amid controversy and protests due to a serious disease.
“I ask that this boy be identified and punished, along with his parents. It is unacceptable that such a young child is out at night without any supervision. Who taught him such behavior? That cedar was a symbol of the neighborhood, beloved by the entire community.
Now it has been destroyed for a prank, a joke, perhaps even premeditated, since someone was ready to film and publish the video on social media. A crazy gesture that cannot go unpunished”, declared Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green Left Alliance.

It is very sad to see how young people do not respect nature and trees. That Lebanese cedar was an important symbol for the neighborhood and now it is destroyed. I hope a solution is found to better educate the kids.
